Cold Barrels Health & Safety Waiver

Effective date: 28 August 2026

This Health & Safety Waiver (“Waiver”) applies to all participants using the sauna, ice bath and associated facilities operated by Cold Barrels Ltd (“Cold Barrels”, “we”, “us” or “our”).

Sauna use, cold-water immersion and movement between hot and cold environments involve inherent risks. These risks cannot be completely eliminated even where the facilities are used correctly and reasonable safety precautions are followed.

By completing this Waiver and participating in a Cold Barrels Session, you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted the information below.

1. Personal Responsibility and Suitability to Participate

You are responsible for deciding whether sauna use, cold-water immersion and rapid changes in temperature are suitable for you.

Cold Barrels and its staff do not provide medical advice, diagnose medical conditions or assess or certify your medical fitness to participate.

If you have a medical condition or underlying health concern, are pregnant, take medication, have recently undergone surgery or treatment, or otherwise have concerns about whether heat, cold-water immersion or rapid changes in temperature are suitable for you, you should seek appropriate advice from a qualified medical professional before participating.

You are not required to disclose medical conditions, medication, pregnancy or other medical information to Cold Barrels as part of our standard booking or Waiver process.

You must not participate if you feel unwell or believe that participation may be unsafe for you.

You are responsible for monitoring how you feel throughout your visit.

You must stop participating immediately and inform a member of staff if you experience symptoms including:

  • dizziness or faintness;

  • nausea;

  • unusual shortness of breath;

  • chest discomfort;

  • confusion;

  • loss of coordination;

  • severe or unusual discomfort; or

  • any other symptom that concerns you.

2. Age Requirements

Cold Barrels facilities are available only to participants aged 16 or over.

Participants under 16 are not permitted to use the sauna or ice bath facilities.

Participants aged 16–17:

  • must have a parent or legal guardian complete the applicable Under-18 Parent / Legal Guardian Consent before participation; and

  • must be accompanied throughout their visit by a responsible adult aged 18 or over.

The accompanying responsible adult does not need to be the participant’s parent or legal guardian, provided the required parent or legal guardian consent has been completed.

Cold Barrels may require reasonable evidence of age, identity or consent before permitting participation.

3. Sauna Safety

When using the sauna, you agree to:

  • follow displayed rules and reasonable instructions given by Cold Barrels staff;

  • limit each continuous sauna period to a maximum of 20 minutes, or a shorter period where instructed;

  • begin with shorter periods if you are inexperienced with sauna use;

  • leave the sauna immediately if you feel unwell, dizzy, faint, nauseous, excessively hot or otherwise uncomfortable;

  • remain appropriately hydrated before, during and after your visit;

  • enter and leave the sauna carefully;

  • avoid touching the sauna heater, stones or other hot surfaces;

  • use water on sauna stones only where permitted and in accordance with displayed instructions or staff guidance;

  • not interfere with, cover, alter or misuse sauna equipment; and

  • ensure the sauna door is properly closed after entering or leaving.

Cold Barrels staff may require you to leave the sauna where they reasonably believe continued use may present a health or safety risk.

4. Ice Bath Safety

Cold-water immersion can cause an immediate and significant physical response, including changes in breathing, heart rate and circulation.

When using an ice bath, you agree to:

  • enter the water slowly and carefully;

  • use handrails or other assistance provided where appropriate;

  • follow displayed time limits and reasonable staff instructions;

  • leave the water immediately if you feel unwell, dizzy, faint, confused, excessively uncomfortable or unable to control your breathing normally;

  • never dive or jump into an ice bath;

  • not intentionally hyperventilate, perform prolonged breath-holding exercises or engage in similar activities in or immediately before entering an ice bath;

  • not misuse, climb on or interfere with ice bath equipment; and

  • take particular care when entering and leaving the water.

You remain responsible for deciding when to end your cold-water exposure, even where a maximum permitted time has not been reached.

5. Wet Floors, Slips and Movement Between Facilities

Areas surrounding showers, ice baths and other wet facilities may be slippery.

You agree to:

  • walk carefully;

  • not run on the premises;

  • use handrails where provided;

  • take particular care when entering and leaving showers and ice baths; and

  • follow warning signs and reasonable safety instructions.

You should take particular care when moving between hot and cold environments, especially if you feel light-headed, dizzy or unsteady.

6. Alcohol, Drugs and Conduct

You must not use the facilities while intoxicated or while your judgement, coordination or ability to participate safely is impaired by alcohol, recreational drugs or another substance.

Alcohol, smoking and vaping are not permitted within Cold Barrels facilities.

Appropriate swimwear must be worn.

Nudity is not permitted.

You must behave respectfully towards other participants and staff and must not engage in behaviour that could endanger, intimidate or unreasonably disrupt others.

Cold Barrels may refuse admission, restrict access or terminate participation where a participant:

  • appears intoxicated or impaired;

  • appears unwell;

  • behaves dangerously, abusively or disruptively;

  • fails to follow reasonable safety instructions;

  • misuses equipment or facilities;

  • presents a material risk to themselves or others; or

  • otherwise materially breaches applicable facility rules.

Where participation is refused or terminated because of the participant’s own conduct or failure to comply with applicable requirements, the Session may be treated as used and forfeited in accordance with our Terms & Conditions.

7. Jewellery, Clothing and Personal Belongings

Jewellery and other items that may become excessively hot or interfere with safe use of the facilities should be removed before entering the sauna or ice bath.

You should bring a suitable towel or robe and wear appropriate footwear where required.

You are responsible for personal belongings brought onto the premises.

Cold Barrels will not be responsible for loss of or damage to personal belongings where the loss or damage was not caused by a breach of duty for which Cold Barrels is legally responsible.

Nothing in this section excludes or restricts liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

8. Staff Instructions and Emergencies

You agree to follow all reasonable health and safety instructions provided by Cold Barrels staff.

Staff may stop your participation, refuse access to a particular facility or end your Session where they reasonably believe this is necessary to protect you, another participant or staff.

In an emergency, Cold Barrels staff may take reasonable action appropriate to the circumstances, including:

  • stopping participation;

  • providing first aid within the limits of their training; and

  • contacting emergency services where appropriate.

You must inform staff immediately of any accident, injury, equipment problem or unsafe condition that you become aware of.

9. Bookings for Other Participants

Where a booking for another participant is permitted, the person arranging the booking is responsible for ensuring that the participant receives the relevant booking and safety information.

Every adult participant must individually read and accept this Health & Safety Waiver before using the facilities.

One adult participant cannot accept this Waiver on behalf of another adult participant.

Participants aged 16–17 remain subject to the separate consent and supervision requirements set out in Section 2.

Memberships are personal and may only be used by the Member in accordance with our Terms & Conditions.

10. Acknowledgement of Inherent Risk

You understand and acknowledge that sauna use, cold-water immersion and movement between hot and cold environments involve inherent risks.

These may include risks associated with:

You voluntarily choose to participate with knowledge of these inherent risks.

You agree to take reasonable care of your own safety and the safety of others and to use the facilities only as intended.

11. Liability and Your Legal Rights

Cold Barrels takes reasonable steps to provide and maintain a safe environment and to manage foreseeable risks associated with the operation of its facilities.

To the extent permitted by law, Cold Barrels will not be responsible for injury, loss or damage resulting from:

  • a participant disregarding reasonable safety instructions or facility rules;

  • misuse of equipment or facilities;

  • a participant choosing to participate when they feel unwell or believe participation may be unsafe;

  • death or personal injury caused by its negligence;

  • fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;

  • liability arising from breach of statutory duty where that liability cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted; or

  • any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

Nothing in this Waiver affects your statutory consumer rights.
